Location. Auberge Mendocino - Seaside Inn and Cottages is located in the hamlet of Little River approximately two miles south of the village of Mendocino, Calif. The property is positioned between the Russian Gulch and Mendocino Headlands State Parks. The ocean is accessible via a secluded walking trail lined with fuchsias and blackberries, and a bluff trail to the north offers expansive views of the coastline. The Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens is approximately six miles from the property.
Features. This property is comprised of a French country inn, built in the 1860s and renovated in the 1980s and 1990s, and three separate cottages. Full, complimentary breakfasts include fresh seasonal fruit, home-baked pastries and hot entrées. The inn serves certified organic, free-trade coffee and tea. Snacks and fresh fruit are available throughout the day. The inn is flanked by gardens, and a revolving collection of local artwork is featured in the common rooms. Concierge services and in-room massages are available.
Guestrooms. These guestrooms and cottages blend French country decor with relaxed California design. The Merlot and Cabernet Rooms, as well as the Chez Cremant and Little River Cottages, offer private patios or decks, and gas or wood-burning fireplaces. Both cottages include kitchen facilities, and the Chez Cremant Cottage offers a two-person jetted tub. The Pinot Noir Suite features a piano in the sitting area.
Expert Tip. Van Damme State Park, located adjacent to the Auberge Mendocino - Seaside Inn and Cottages, is an excellent vantage point from which to view the migration of the gray whales.
